The 7 best cafes and brunch spots in Canggu, Bali

best cafe canggu

When I first visited Bali, I was a little overwhelmed with how many food options were available in each place I visited. Cafe culture is huge in Bali, as an Aussie who loves a hearty brunch and a barista-made coffee, I was spoilt for choice. From the best coffees to the quirkiest menu items, here are some of the best cafes in Canggu, Bali.

1. The Shady Shack

We’re kicking off the list with one of my absolute favourites, The Shady Shack. This vegan and vego cafe has a menu loaded with fresh smoothies and bowls, an all-day breakfast, lighter snacks and some heavenly comfort food. The Shady Shack is a must-try if you’re after something packed with veggie goodness that still tastes delicious.

2. Penny Lane

This one is high on the list of the most Instagramable spots to grab a bite to eat in Canggu. Penny Lane is decked out in unique, vintage decor, indoor palms and cacti, giving it a cool Palm Springs/desert oasis vibe. Famous for their big burgers, share plates and loaded dishes, this all-day til late-night restaurant also offers up the usual breakfast spread, plus some must-have cocktails. Best of both worlds!

3. Zin Cafe

A short stroll from Canggu Beach, Zin Cafe is a chill brunch spot that doubles as a co-working space, ideal for a coffee, a bite to eat or even a business chat. Sit back and relax in this open-air bungalow or make the most of their free wifi while you smash out some work. With plenty of seating space and a huge, all-day menu, Zin Cafe is a digital nomad’s dream.

4. Copenhagen

For an international twist on brunch, you should definitely try Copenhagen. Taking inspiration from its namesake and other Nordic destinations, this cafe is all about friendly people, delicious Danish treats and just being present. Must-tries include their authentic Scandi cinnamon rolls and sandwiches. Of course, they also make great coffee which is essential. A quick walk from Echo Beach, Copenhagen is a delight!

5. The Avocado Factory

You probably guessed from the name, but these guys specialise in all things avocado – their toast of course, smoothies, bowls, croissants, pancakes, burgers and even coffee – you name it, they avo it. Add The Avocado Factory to your list for a unique brunch experience that pays homage to one of nature’s most popular- and versatile- health foods. Take in the surrounding rice fields, and feel a part of nature while you enjoy their specialty avocado treats.

6. Cafe Vida

A homely cafe in the heart of Canggu, Cafe Vida is a welcoming and cosy spot to sip on a nice coffee or herbal tea and enjoy some deliciously healthy and organic food. With locally sourced ingredients and homemade treats, this is the perfect spot to energise yourself before heading out for a day of activities or wind down after enjoying all the sights and experiences of Canggu.

7. The Common

To end this list on a high, I have to recommend The Common. Fill your cup and enjoy great food, drinks, atmosphere and people. Their motto is ‘making good times common’, and I can’t disagree, bringing the laid-back island energy and community vibe that Bali is known for. The food? These guys have all the usual offerings plus some Cali/Mex add-ons, try their killer breakfast tacos or even grab a cheeky marg, why not?
